Much of the world's population has utilized Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture as natural healing methods. Perhaps new to the United States, the popularity has grown and many are flocking to their local acupuncturists. Some out of curiosity, to see what this ancient art is all about and others to restore, maintain and PREVENT HEALTH PROBLEMS.

The buzz has hit the media and acupuncture has gotten great press, to a fault in fact. The miraculous stories are good publicity except that it creates a "quick fix" mentality for the general public. Depending upon the intensity and duration of a problem- the course of care will vary. We do see miracles- some just take longer than others!

There are 3 factors that create dysfunction in the body: physical stress or trauma, mental and emotional stress or trauma and biochemical exposure (chemicals, virus, bacteria, and fungus.) These factors literally create disease patterns in our bodies. Like a car, the human body needs it's filters (liver, kidneys and blood) cleaned out and the electrical system has to be recalibrated (your energy and blood flow enhanced.) When maintained the body functions well for a very long time!

Acupuncturists receive a 3 year Master's level certification from their school and must pass the National Acupuncture Board examination. New York State has a separate license for which an acupuncturist must apply as well. Year one consists of Theory and Point location. Year two consists of Disease Patterns and Point Location. Year three consists of 500 clinical hours under a supervising practitioner.

Diagnostics and Treatments

Ancient diagnostic methods determine the underlying cause of the condition and the treatment needed.

5,000 years ago there were no X-rays, MRI's, CAT scans or blood work. There was, however, the learned skill of observation and analysis, along with palpation (touching) the patient.

Pulse diagnosis: there are three positions on each wrist, with a superficial level and a deep level noted.

These 12 positions (total) determine the function and/or dysfunction of internal organs.

Tongue diagnosis: the tongue is sectioned into 3 parts: front, middle and back. The color, size, coating, shape and sides also determine the current state of health internally.
